Description

It is said that Gray Men are people who gave up their souls to the Dark One, and are almost impossible to notice. What is said is true.

A Gray Man thinks about life as it seeks its target in the White Tower.

Written for the prompt Overlooked on Krickis' Discord server.

CW: Suicide and murder.

Nothing's been added yet!

Come back later when there's something to read.

Having not read The Wheel of Time, this was still an interesting story that served as a good introduction to the concepts in this world. The only part I felt I didn't have enough context for was the conspiracy discussion in the middle.

Nice! I wrote this for a prompt group where most members hadn't read WoT so I wanted it to be accessible. I'm glad to hear that worked out.

As for the conspiracy thing, what Theryna (an OC; Felaana is canon but so minor that I'm really just using her name and likeness and making up the rest) was talking about was a load of baloney.

That's all you really need to understand, but for further context: Shadowspawn is a term that refers to a category of monsters under the Dark One's command (the Dark One being a devil figure, the same Great Lord the POV character serves – Gray Men are an edge case between human and Shadowspawn). They generally come from the Blight, a deadly area to the north of the main continent.

Theryna's claims are like if monsters were known to regularly come over the border from Canada to the US (particularly in New England, with Maine having already fallen) and a Californian claimed that because Justin Trudeau obviously didn't exist, clearly the state of Oregon was behind it and had been covering it up since the time of Jesus. And that Oregon had existed that entire time as a cult led by gypsies.

It's worth noting that generally speaking, Aes Sedai can't lie, so Theryna believes every damn word of what she said.

Ah, I figured it was some crazy conspiracy talk, but it also could have been the actual way the story developed.
